Velisha Vegetable Growers farm three properties that together cover approximately 120 acres. Each property features an independent pump shed with a fully automated and controlled irrigation system. The irrigation system utilises ½” plastic impact sprinklers featuring 4.0 x 2.5 double jet sprinklers, arranged on a 12 x 12-meter row spacing. The summer crop is lettuce, and the winter crop is cauliflower.

The main goal was to produce a consistent, high-quality crop throughout the entire field. The installation of two ITC DOSMART:AC 4 Advanced Control Series pumps and one DOSTEC-AC 200D Advanced Control Series diaphragm pump has enabled the application of fertilizer products with every irrigation. The ITC pumps are turned on through the automatic irrigation controller, with the injection rates adjustable to meet changes in climate conditions. The enhancement of the irrigation process by infusing essential fertiliser products with every cycle. Injecting premium blends, including granulated calcium nitrate,
amino acids, and Kilated calcium liquid products, ensures optimal plant growth and health. The installation of the advanced ITC controlled fertiliser pumping system will maximise yields and help cultivate thriving crops.
Now that the fertiliser products are automatically injected at each irrigation, there has been increased uniformity and a greatly reduced labour component compared to previous methods.
